Haiti help      At its quarterly meeting on Feb. 6, the Supreme Board of Directors voted to donate $150,000 for the purchase of 1,000 wheelchairs for distribution to those whose limbs have been amputated or have otherwise become disabled in Haiti. The Order will work through the Global Wheelchair Mission to get the wheelchairs to Haiti as soon as possible. The Supreme Council had earlier donated $50,000 to Catholic Relief Services for Haiti relief. In addition, Knights of Columbus donations from state and local councils and from individual members for Haiti earthquake relief exceeded $400,000 as of February 8. Approximately $372,000 of the total came from the United States and more than $29,000 came from Canada. The period during which on-line donations to the United in Charity Fund will be earmarked for Haiti relief has been extended to Feb. 15. Donors may also send checks, which should include the words “Haiti earthquake relief” on the memo line.
Insurance Agency

Why buy insurance from the K. of C?

April 15 - tax day - is right around the corner. It’s become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax savings vehicle. A secondary approach is to tout the rate of interest that money in one of these accounts can earn. Let me join the chorus of folks encouraging you to open or add funds to an annuity, but for a different reason.
Certainly, contributing money to a Knights of Columbus annuity will allow you to save some money on your income tax return. And our annuities do pay a very competitive interest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of principal. Opening or adding to an annuity for these reasons, however, strikes me as taking a short-term view of a product that is designed to provide long-term security. How much security? How does a retirement income that you cannot outlive – guaranteed – sound to you?
Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive. That guarantee – along with the fact that no one has ever lost money left in a Knights of Columbus annuity (remember – absolute safety of principal), really will provide you with peace of mind.
I am happy to meet with you – at your convenience and in your home – to explain in detail the benefits of opening a Knights of Columbus annuity, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance and long term care insurance plans.
As you ponder all the things that may not work out as you proceed toward retirement, think about one thing you can do to help yourself – opening a Knights of Columbus annuity. It’s reasonably priced ($300 to start), guaranteed, and controlled by someone you trust – you! I look forward to meeting with each of you.

Fr. McGivney

McGivney Prayer

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, You called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant Fr. Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of Your Holy Will. Through his Intercession, grant the request I now make (mention your request.) Through Christ, our Lord, Amen.
Continue with and finish the prayer with an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory be.
The website of the McGivney Guild is McGivney Guild. He has been elevated to the title of Venerable so he is one step closer to Sainthood.

Gibault School is an alternative for delinquent and pre-delinquent youths instead of the state-run schools for troubled boys and girls. The Indiana State Council owns the school and oversees the professional staff. This is our major charity for our state.
Please help us through your prayers and donations as we endeavor to build a Culture of Life.
Also, please consider donating a Knights of Columbus life insurance policy for the benefit of United in Charity, after your family’s insurance needs are met. Your Knights of Columbus insurance agent can supply you with a brochure and information on several different ways to provide such a gift.
