Watch the sign, we had Prime Rib on Jan. 15. During the period of Lent, we will be opening up the kitchen to anyone who wants to host a fish-fry fundraiser. The 4th Degree assembly has already asked for Feb. 26 for their fundraiser. We anticipate that several other parish organizations will ask for a Friday meal during Lent. Until then watch the sign for our future meals as we get the cooks to do it.

During the past decade, the Knights of Columbus has donated more than $1.325 billion to charity.
The Knights of Columbus set new all-time records for charitable donations and volunteer service hours in 2008.The Knights’ annual Survey of Fraternal Activity for the year ending Dec. 31, 2008, indicates that, despite a soft economy, total charitable contributions reached $150,036,865 – exceeding the previous year’s total by more than $5.1 million.
The figure includes $32,295,376 donated by the Supreme Council, and $117,741,489 in contributions from state and local councils assemblies and Squires circles.

There were more than 413,000 Knights of Columbus blood donations during the year and, among the most common service programs, Habitat for Humanity received 156,295 K of C volunteer hours.
The Knights of Columbus has been promoting a Year of the Volunteer and sponsored a summit on volunteerism, A Nation of Neighbors Helping Neighbors, in New York Feb. 27, to promoted increased participation and collaboration in volunteer efforts from individuals and organizations.

Why buy insurance from the K. of C?
Sometimes it is easy to overlook the simplest of things.
Take the beneficiaries on your life insurance policies. If your policy was applied for and issued several years ago, it could very well be that the person you originally selected as the beneficiary is no longer the person you would want to receive the policy proceeds. If you bought the policy when you were single, for example, you may have named your parents as beneficiaries. If you have since been married, that could be updated to reflect your spouse or your children.
Most people list a primary beneficiary – that person is specifically designated as the first in priority to receive policy proceeds. We also encourage the naming of a contingent beneficiary – an alternate person designated to receive policy proceeds, usually in the event that the original beneficiary pre-deceases the insured.
I routinely call all of our policyholders for annual review appointments, usually near the anniversary date of your policy – the date it was originally issued. One of the matters that I’ll discuss during this review is the status of your beneficiary designations. If they need updating, and they often do, I can complete the paperwork during that appointment.
I look forward to meeting with each of you.
I want to meet with you to review your existing coverage. Based upon that review, and on the comprehensive needs analysis that I’ll perform, free of charge, we’ll be able to put a plan in place that will meet your needs, goals and budget.

McGivney Prayer
God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, You called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant Fr. Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of Your Holy Will. Through his Intercession, grant the request I now make (mention your request.) Through Christ, our Lord, Amen.
Continue with and finish the prayer with an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory be.
The website of the McGivney Guild is McGivney Guild. He has been elevated to the title of Venerable so he is one step closer to Sainthood.
